30 Women in 30 Days – Day 12

Today’s post is honoring the women who have been targets of domestic violence, stalking or any type of sexual, physical, emotional, economic or psychological abuse.

Whether a woman has witnessed it in the street, had a friend or relative in an abusive relationship or was in one herself, I believe we’ve probably all witnessed violence against women at some level.

Women are victimized by intimate partners, social acquaintances and friends, family members and even strangers.  It’s not unusual for violence or abuse to cause long term trauma related health effects.  Healing is their mission.

Violence against a woman is a violation of her human rights.

Having been on the receiving end of sexual assault, I know healing is hard. Sometimes it’s a matter of talking about it instead of burying it.

Don’t let something you had no control over become your secret shame.

    • thank you for reblogging it. I was worried that the photo might be too harsh. I’ve been there too many years ago. It left me with scars but I’m OK. I healed with a lot of love and support. stay fabulous.

  2. A few years ago I wrote a short story pertaining to this issue. You’re welcome to check it out. WARNINGS: It’s not a happy story, obviously 😦 , but I think it’s pretty well written.

    • great job! It describes so well the constant degrading and control.

      • Thanks. 🙂 …It just kind of fell out onto the page. My mom was in a bad marriage for a while when I was a kid and that kind of resonated in the story – minus the catholic priest lol – so I’ve seen it firsthand. Always makes/made me very sad to see women in any type of abusive relationship. No one deserves that, especially from someone who supposedly loves them.
